Salary Calculator

Convert between hourly, monthly and annual pay.

What this salary calculator does

It converts pay between hourly, monthly and annual terms so that offers quoted in different units can be compared honestly. A contract advertised at 25 an hour and a salary of 4,000 a month are not obviously comparable until both are expressed the same way — and the answer depends entirely on how many hours the week actually contains.

The formula behind it

The calculator works from your weekly hours, treating a year as 52 weeks and a month as 52 ÷ 12 ≈ 4.333 weeks. Annual pay is hourly × hours per week × 52; monthly pay is that figure divided by twelve. At 25 an hour for 40 hours a week, the annual figure is 52,000 and the monthly figure is about 4,333 — noticeably more than the 4,000 offer it was being compared against.

How to use this calculator

Enter the amount, select whether it is quoted per hour, per month or per year, and give your weekly hours. The result shows all three equivalents at once. Use your contracted hours rather than the hours you actually work, unless you are deliberately calculating your true effective rate including unpaid overtime.

Comparing offers properly

Headline pay is only part of the package. Employer pension contributions, paid leave, health cover and bonuses can be worth a substantial share of salary, and a role with four extra days of leave is effectively paying more per hour worked. These figures are gross: what reaches your account depends on tax and deductions, so use a take-home calculator alongside this one before making a decision.
